Exploring an Unusual Steam Game Trial: Controlling a Turdy Character in a Mission to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is now live, and gamers have found a variety of interesting independent titles. Yet, one catches the eye for its unconventional concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled jumping adventure features a hero that is literally a piece of poop trying to make its way to a commode. As a fun fact, "Unko" translates to "poop."

The gameplay is straightforward: press a single jump button. Throughout 150 levels, encounter mini-bosses and visit a shop to acquire customizations for your dung hero.

Execute your actions precisely, as a error forces beginning again. Leap using air pockets to hurl yourself higher, cross crumbling ledges, and touch triggers to unlock new areas. Gather UN-KOINS and use them on more difficult levels where the action intensifies.

Visually, the demo features neon environments and an amazing background music. Its minimalist graphics featuring morphing geometric shapes evokes memories of fans of classic titles like Earthbound.

Even though hard to name similar titles where you are a dung character, video games often featured fecal matter. For instance, in Death Stranding, players craft grenades from protagonist droppings. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ manure as soil enrichment. Unsurprisingly, fecal references appears heavily in the South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.

Putting aside its goofy concept, Unko Technica has already earned significant accolades, like taking top honors at a major publisher's indie contest in 2023. A playable preview is available now on Steam, with the final release planned to arrive on PC on November 19.
