Hodgkinson recorded her personal best of 1:54.61 the previous season in the British capital.

The Olympic champion concluded her two-lap campaign with a triumph at the all-female Athlos meet in New York on Friday night.

{The current Olympic gold medallist, who earned bronze at the World Championships last month, excelled in an outstanding victory in 1:56.53 in what was just her sixth appearance in a year affected by a hamstring injury.

Compatriot and world silver medallist Georgia Bell took the runner-up spot once more in 1:58.33, while the athlete from St Vincent Shafiqua Maloney (1:58.57) claimed third.

"I've barely raced this season so it was probably easier for me to go out there and be motivated to perform," said Hodgkinson.

"The atmosphere out there is crazy so it was extremely enjoyable."

The women-only meet filled the stadium in its second edition, bringing a festive vibe to traditional track, with musical performances and special crowns replacing traditional winners' medals.

The tennis legend with 23 major titles Serena W., who is wed to Athlos founder Alexis Ohanian, was on hand to award the victors with their crowns.

Last year's winners took home $60,000 (forty-four thousand six hundred and three pounds) - one of the largest prize purses in track and field.

The event also attracted several top athletes, as the Kenyan triple Olympic champion and global record breaker Faith K. won the mile, crossing the finish line in 4:17.78.

American Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze medallist from last year's Paris Olympics, won the sprint double.
