The anticipation about the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The mystery has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a completely new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.
A Different Direction
For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio warned that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.
Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This distinction hints that the team is likely building a more action-oriented experience rather than another turn-based title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it pioneered the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, player agency, and deep class systems—traits that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities you can achieve by choosing a particular class or origin with a personal story.
The series is also wonderfully flexible, enabling players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be completed in diverse methods, sometimes in lateral fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something a dog told you.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a inventive way.
More to Come
It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can get ready for a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
