The young midfielder James nets Wales to crucial World Cup qualifying triumph against Liechtenstein.

The Welsh side secured a tight 1-0 win against less-fancied opponents Liechtenstein to sustain their chances of World Cup progress.

Jordan James claimed his maiden international strike for Wales from close range after Liechtenstein’s assorted collection of full-time players, amateurs and students had defended for over an hour. James wheeled away in delight with his visible excitement shared by the 3,000 Welsh fans packed into most sections of the stadium in Vaduz.

Shortly after, though, Jordan James was shown a yellow card and another booking for Ethan Ampadu ensured the pair are suspended for the upcoming decisive game with North Macedonia due to suspension.

The home venue fixture is a game the Welsh team have to secure victory in to overtake North Macedonia and guarantee a better position in the final round in next spring.

Bellamy had an unfamiliar perspective from the dugout, Bellamy serving a technical area prohibition after being shown a additional booking in the tournament previously.

Bellamy’s deputy Cremers assumed duties in the technical area and four of Wales’s starters – Jordan James, Ethan Ampadu, Rodon, Williams – were one caution from from being absent for the last group game. A pair were booked in situations that could really hurt Wales.

Liechtenstein, placed 206 out of 210 teams in global rankings, had been goalless in their winless run and allowed 23 goals at an average of around four per match.

Wales unsurprisingly controlled the ball as their hosts adopted a low defensive block and defended in numbers.

Liechtenstein's net remained unthreatened until the forward's high press forced an error and Jordan James saw his effort from the edge of the box saved by BĂĽchel.

The same combination worked the next opening, James finding Broadhead on this occasion with a precise pass over the top.

The attacker's excellent first touch took him past BĂĽchel but the attacker could not convert from a difficult angle.

Wales felt they broken the deadlock after 26 minutes when Jordan James headed a deep Sorba Thomas corner back into a crowded penalty box.

BĂĽchel was under pressure by Lawlor and Joe Rodon, and his feeble attempt landed with Broadhead who drove home emphatically. But Wales' joy were cut short when the match official was sent to the VAR screen and determined that at least one of the Wales centre-halves was in an illegal position from Jordan's initial touch.

Wales increased the pressure after the break and Sorba Thomas provided a cross to the back post which Daniel James struck the frame of the goal.

Neco Williams then missed with a header from inside the goal area as it appeared like a frustrating evening for the Welsh side.

However, with the contest having reached its second half, Williams executed a shrewd through ball for his teammate to break behind the opposition backline.

James cut out the goalkeeper with a delightful pass into the danger area, and his teammate Jordan had the easy task of relieving Welsh tension.
